Visit Bend just announced a new contest to promote our exploding craft beer industry, the Beer For A Year Sweepstakes! That’s right; buy a $10 raffle ticket and you could win free beer for an entire year. More precisely, $2500 in gift cards to a collection of Bend’s breweries. That’s enough to support one beer plus tip every day for a year!
Bend and Central Oregon are home to 11 craft breweries with another 5 in the works presently. The majority of those breweries are within a few miles of each other in Bend. The brewing industry has boomed and the city is reaping in the rewards of increased tourism as a result. In 2010 The Bend Ale Trail was started by Visit Bend, the city’s tourism promotion agency. Trail goers receive a map and passport to the breweries and if they have their passport stamped at each brewery, receive a Bend Ale Trail silipint. In the past 12 months over 3000 adventurers have completed the trail and over 20,000 completed part of it! This spring, Visit Bend will unveil Bend Ale Trail, Version 2.0. The new version will add two breweries and a virtual component for smart phone and iPad users.
Winners of the Beer For A Year Sweepstakes, which starts May 1st, will be announced at the Fermentation Celebration this July. (More on that event to come…) Raffle proceeds will go to the Central Oregon Brewers Guild, according to Doug La Placa, CEO of Visit Bend.
