How do I find a Realtor? I’ve heard this question many times. I even asked it before buying my first property. Truth is, they’re not hard to find. According to the National Association of Realtors, there are 1.3 million Realtors nationwide! When I first received my Real Estate License in 2005, I was amongst 72,000 Arizona Realtors!
The best place to start looking is among your friends, family and co-workers. Ask people, whose judgment you respect, if they have been happy with any Realtors they have used. Drive, walk or pedal through the neighborhoods you are interested in and make a list of names you see on the signs – not necessarily the company names, but the actual agent names. If you have an established relationship with a local lender whom you are using, ask them about area Realtors.
Do not visit open houses of homes you are interested in or call a listing agent about a home you are interested without first finding a Realtor who will represent only you as a buyer! I’ll tackle that issue on a future post…
Make sure you find at least 3 Realtors to interview before you choose who will represent you and earn your business. Here are two articles with questions to help you with interview questions; Choosing a Realtor – How to Interview a Real Estate Agent, Part I and Choosing a Realtor – How to Interview a Real Estate Agent, Part II
